Organizations for Eating Disorder Recovery

We were never meant to do recovery, or healing in general, in isolation. It takes a community and you deserve support. Below are just a few of the multitudes of online eating disorder recovery sites and organizations:

Eating Disorder Recovery Podcasts

As of about two years ago is when I finally made the leap to listening to podcasts with any amount of regularity. But now that I’m pro-podcasting, I’m absolutely hooked and I can thank this in large part to one specific show: Maintenance Phase by Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes. This podcast somehow manages to have me rolling with laughter even though they regularly speak on heavy topics, such as anti-fat biases in the medical community. You can rely on these two to “debunk junk science behind health and wellness fads” all while tying in cultural references that bring in much needed levity. (Shout out to the lovely human who first shared this beloved resource with me!)

Other noteworthy podcasts would include:

  • Behind the Binge by Marissa Kai Miluk: Binge eating disorder is often the “forgotten” diagnosis when it comes to eating disorders and Marissa is an RD who dedicates her entire podcast to ways on how to combat it as well as help listeners feel seen and cared for.

  • Men Unscripted by Aaron Flores: Aaron is a registered dietitian who focuses each episode to anonymous men sharing their own experience with negative body image, disordered eating, and more. A great resource for men or men-identifying folk who do not always feel their stories are told in the general body image community.

  • The Body Grievers Club by Bri Campos: Two body image coaches who walk you through what it means to experience distressing body image and create healing connection.

  • Recovery Bites by Karen Lewis: a show dedicated to guest appearances of eating disorder professionals who have recovered from their own eating disorder. A pretty interesting listen for both prospective clients as well as providers.

Eating Disorder Harm Reduction in California

Before jumping in, we should first identify what eating disorder harm reduction even is. In incredibly simplified terms, it is a philosophy implemented to provide care for individuals or who may not want recovery or who may not feel inclined towards it currently, but are still wishing for support. This topic deserves it’s own blog post which you can look forward to in the future as I dedicate myself towards becoming more educated in this domain to better serve people like you; truly leading with person-centered care.

But for now, if you’re interested in learning more, you can check out Gloria Lucas at Nalgona Positivity Pride by clicking here or even check out her community circle dedicated to those with eating disorders who are looking for a harm reduction approach.
